The Kamen Rider ZI-O spin-offs Rider Time Shinobi and Ryuki held a pre-screening and talk show on March 30, 2019. The first part of the event focused on the first spin-off Kamen Rider Shinobi. The second half brought out the cast of Kamen Rider Ryuki to hold a cast talk.
Of the cast members appearing in spin-off, Takamasa Suga (須賀貴匡) – Shinji Kido/Kamen Rider Ryuki, was the only member unable to appear.
In total, nine people appeared on stage, including:
- Satoshi Matsuda (松田悟志) – Ren Akiyama/Kamen Rider Knight
- Hassei Takano (高野八誠) – Miyuki Tezuka/Kamen Rider Raia
- Takashi Hagino (萩野崇) – Takeshi Asakura/Kamen Rider Ouja
- Satoshi Ichijo (一條俊) – Jun Shibaura/Kamen Rider Gai
- Tomohisa Yuge (弓削智久) – Goro Yura
Matsuda stated that he was really looking forward to it, while Takano said “My fortune-telling will strike.”
During the event, Hagino revealed that he had rewatched the original 2002-2003 series. The writing and directing staff also reviewed the past series in preparation of the spin-off.
During the event, Hagino remembered when his character kills Raia (Takano) in the show and stated “I was disliked by all your fans!” with a laugh. When taking photos on stage, Ichijo even showed some playful fear, but saying “Guard Vent!” when Hagino stood close beside him.
Matsuda recalled wearing his outfit from 17 years ago and said it “Felt more like a cosplay.” He tried to find a new costume that both showed that time period, while also feeling more moden. On the other hand, Hagino laughed because he’s still wearing the same outfit. He even dyed his hair again for the spin-off, even though “I hate it because my hair hurts” but feels fortunate because beauty products have evolved since the early 2000s.
On the topic of Riders, Matsuda revealed that if he got to play another rider, he would play Kamen Rider Ouja. During that time, he was able to imitate the character well. The five cast members began to imitate each other’s characters. Ichijo also revealed he liked Ouja’s character.
Kamen Rider fans have noticed the similarities between Ren Akiyama and Geiz Myokoin/Kamen Rider Geiz (portrayed by Gaku Oshida (押田岳). Matsuda stated he didn’t really noticed until fans reacted to a photo he posted on Twitter. With a laugh, he stated that he must have gotten at least 10,000 comments comparing them.
In the middle of the event, everyone watched the opening video of the spin-off. Suga, who was not at the event, had a pre-recorded message for the cast and fans.
At the end of the event, the actors all shared their final thoughts about the series. Ichigo remarked that after 17 years, it feels as though the spin-off is a natural part of the original series. Takano stated that there was some pressure after 17 years, but was happy to record the spin-off in a new setting.
