The Japanese dubbed version of the DC Comics film Shazam! will be released on April 19, 2019. Masaki Suda (菅田将暉) will be taking on his first voice acting sub role in Western media. The casting decision was announced at an event in Tokyo.
Shazam! is the latest DC Universe film about a young boy who receives superpowers. By shouting “Shazam!” he transforms into an adult superhero.
Suda wasn’t at the event, but shared his thoughts via video. He was offered the role from Yuichi Fukuda, who is known for his live-action adaptation of Gintama. Portraying Shazam reminded him of his work in Kamen Rider.
Fukuda, along with Jiro Sato, were at the event. Fukuda stated that Shazam is an adult, but at his heart he’s child. He’s a restless hero, but he becomes cool. Sato commented that he reminded him of Suda.
Suda previously portrayed Philip in Kamen Rider W.
