The Kamen Rider’s Baton Touch event was held on the eve of the Heisei Kamen Rider 20th Work Commemorative Festival in Akihabara on August 24, 2018 between Kamen Rider Build and Kamen Rider ZI-O. The baton hand-off was performed by the current Kamen Rider, Atsuhiro Inukai (犬飼貴丈) to So Okuno (奥野壮), who is portraying the next Kamen Rider.
Also attending the event was Eiji Akaso (赤楚衛二), who portrays Ryuga Banjo/Kamen Rider Cross-Z, and Kouhei Takeda (武田航平), as Kazumi Sawatari/Kamen Rider Grease.
Kamen Rider Build will perform it’s “Final Round” on August 26th, 2018. The next series, Kamen Rider ZI-O will begin on September 2, 2018.
Inukai stated that be believes that Kamen Rider has taught him a lot about the series and helped to build him as an actor. When asked about the final round, he said “I look forward to finishing the story. I liked it. I got goose bumps when I read the script.”
After that, an oversized baton featuring the colors of Build and ZI-O appeared. Inukai gave Okuno words of encouragement. Okuno said “I feel sad watching Build end, but happy that ZI-O will begin.”
This is the second time a baton hand-off has been held for Kamen Riders. Last year, Hiroki Iijima of Kamen Rider Ex-Aid handed the baton to the incoming Kamen Rider Build, portrayed by Inukai. Inukai realizes the weight of the hand-off, stating that the baton now represents all of the experiences and people he has met in the series.
