Ryosuke Yamamoto Discusses Cats and Role in Travelling Cat Chronicles

Ryosuke Yamamoto (山本涼介) previously portrayed Makoto Fukami/Kamen Rider Specter in Kamen Rider Ghost. Yamamoto recently appeared at the Cat Exhibition Art & Goods Festival in Ikebukuro on October 13, 2018 to discuss his role in The Travelling Cat Chronicles. The work was originally written by Hiro Arikawa.

Sota Fukushi (福士蒼汰), who played Gentaro Kisaragi/Kamen Rider Fourze, can no longer care for his beloved cat Nana. He travels around the country seeking a suitable caretaker. Along the way, he meets new and old people from his past. Yamamoto plays Kosuke Sawada, a former friend and classmate of the protagonist.

Yamamoto, who is a cat lover, appeared on stage and told the audience “I hope you can know more about cats, even a little more today.” When asked about how he felt on receiving the role, he stated that he was allowed to read the original, which brought him to tears.

When asked about his role, he stated that his character, Sawada, is already married and running from his wife. Since Yamamoto hasn’t yet experienced marriage, he had to take his role seriously.

Yamamoto stars in the film with Fukushi, who is also part of his agency, KEN-ON. They were already friends since being co-workers, and talked in their spare time. The staff also created a light atmosphere, which helped.

On set, Yamamoto was given the opportunity to learn more about the cat, Nana. “The moment I met her, I was immediately drawn to it.” As for the performance of Mitsuki Takahata, he enjoyed the voice work for Nana.

Yamamoto was asked why he liked cats. He stated “If you’re tired of sad, they will walk towards you and be next to him.” They often come at a time when you feel down, but not too close.

Finally, Yamamoto said that he felt this film portrayed a connection between people and the bond between people and animals. After watching this film, you’ll feel a warmth in your heart.

The Travelling Cat Chronicles is scheduled for release on October 26, 2018.
