Ryo Yoshizawa Looks Back at His Career Since Kamen Rider Fourze
Ryo Yoshizawa (吉沢亮), who portrayed Ryusei Sakuta/Kamen Rider Meteor in Kamen Rider Fourze, recently discussed his role in the live-action adaptation of Bleach as Uryu Ishida. He reunited with his Kamen Rider Fourze co-star Sota Fukushi (福士蒼汰), who played the main protagonist Gentaro Kisaragi. In Bleach, Kisaragi will portray the lead character, Ichigo Kurosaki.
After the end of Fourze, both men went on to earn success. Yoshizawa wanted to make it clear that “We’re not rivals, it’s not a rivalry, or a battlefield. If I see him working hard, I think that I want to support him.”
Bleach would be the first time both men have worked together in six years. Yoshizawa stated that their relationship in Bleach was similar to Fourze, to which he was relieved. They were still compatible with each other on-screen. His character is mysterious, because it’s unclear if Uryu is a friend or a foe.
Though both men have changed over the years, Yoshizawa recalls his working experiences since their time apart. At the beginning of his career, he was having fun but didn’t have much sense of work. He thought he could quit any time.
“Work can seem flashy and exciting, but it gets tiring quickly.” His feelings about the acting industry have slowly changed, starting with his first stage play performance in Bussen. He was the youngest actor in the cast, and it was the first time he felt some disappointed about his performance. He felt as though everything went wrong. It was a changing point for the actor.
Last year, Yoshizawa acted in five films, but found big success in the live-action adaptation of Gintama, where he portrayed Sougo Okita. Masaki Suda (菅田将暉) also appeared in the film as Shinpachi Shimura. Suda formerlly portrayed Philip in Kamen Rider W.
Yoshizawa’s rise continues to move forward. Though he’s busy performing, he also takes times to relax at home. “I’m only doing basic things, like reading manga and playing video games. Recently, I want to try an outdoor hobby, but I don’t know what. I want to explore new hobbies.”
In addition to Bleach, Yoshizawa is also appearing in Gintama 2 and Anoko no Toriko later this year. It appears that the Yoshizawa is still going strong.
