It was recently announced that Kento Nakajima (中島健人), an actor and singer, was cast for the leading role in an upcoming drama about Shotaro Ishinomori (石ノ森章太郎). The program will air during 24HOUR TELEVISION “LOVE SAVES THE EARTH, a 24-hour charity program broadcast from August 25-26, 2017.
The charity program’s theme this year is “People who have changed my life.” Nakajima will star as a teenage version of Ishinomori. The story will focus on Ishinomori’s rise as a manga artist, and how his father opposed his decision. Ishinomori decided to move to Tokyo with his sister, Yoshie, to pursue his dream.
The drama will include content that introduces the live and achivements of the late Shotaro Ishinomori. The screen play was written by Mitsunori Fukuhara (福原充則) and will be directed by Noriyoshi Sakuma (佐久間紀佳).
About the role, Nakajima said he knows that Ishinomori’s is loved worldwise, and since he knows he’ll be playing the creator, he felt some pressure. When he visited Miyagi Prefecture, where the Ishinomori Manga Museum is located, he got goosebumps.
The drama’s official title is still pending. The program will air around 21:00 on Saturday, August 24, 2018 on NTS.
