Sota Fukushi (福士蒼汰) previously portrayed Gentaro Kisaragi in Kamen Rider Fourze. recently is making news as the protagonist Ichigo Kurosaki in the live-action film adaptation Bleach. The manga has been ongoing in Weekly Shonen Jump for the past 15 years.
Fukushi discussed his role as Ichigo in the upcoming film. He knew he had a huge responsibility to play the hero of this popular manga series. In the film, he says the line “I don’t know why, but I don’t think I’m going to lose.” But in reality, Fukushi admits he didn’t feel the same way. His feelings changed after seeing his co-stars and the Director in action.
Ichigo is an energetic, bright, and slightly mischievous. Fukushi admits he’s not like his character. “I like to save my energy and I don’t shout too much (laughs).” After filming, he grew to love Ichigo who was so righteous that it inspired him to be an actor for life.
Ichigo was originally a high school student, but has an intense desire to protect his family and friends. “When he was a child, he thought it was his fault his mother passed. He never wanted anyone else around him to feel sad. I think that’s where his stregnth came from.”
Ichigo felt strong ties with his family, which is something Fukushi feels as well. He is on good terms with his family and believes he can talk to his family about anything. It was the rule that on Sundays, they ate out together. To this day, they continue to stay in touch. “When I’m with my family, I think I’m totally different than who I am in my work.” Fukushi said.
In the future, Fukushi wants to tackle the unknown. He wants to present stregnth on-screen, which is what he hopes to show in the upcoming film Bleach. That’s what interests him the most when he’s the spectator.
Bleach will be released on July 20, 2018 in Japan.
