GeGeGe no Kitaro and Kamen Rider Build in Battle for Viewers
GeGeGe no Kitaro began as a manga series by Shigeru Mizuki in 1960 but was recently adapted into an anime series. The sixth version of the series debuted on Fuji TV on April 1, 2018 and is currently available on Crunchyroll. The series has been updated for modern audiences. It airs every Sunday at 9AM. The average viewer rating as of May 13 was 5.7%, which was the highest viewership of the sixth series so far.
Meanwhile, Kamen Rider Build is currently airing on TV Asahi. Lately, it has been struggling to compete with GeGeGe no Kitaro. When Kamen Rider Build premiered in September, the highest viewer ship rating it has reached was 4.7%. The day GeGeGe no Kitaro debuted, Kamen Rider Build hit the lowest viewership rating ever at 2.4%, then to 2%. Kamen Rider Build has been struggling to compete with the new anime show.
The Kamen Rider series excelled in viewership when moms were particularly interested in an actor. But lately, the Kamen Rider series has seen some controversy. The last actor to be arrested was Toshinobu Matsuo (松尾敏伸), who appeared as Kamen Rider Hibiki series as Kabuki/Kamen Rider Kabuki. He was arrested for allegedly violating Japan’s Stimulant Law. Some feel empathy for what the actor is going through.
Another draw for GeGeGe no Kitaro viewers is one of the characters who appears in this series, Neko-Musume, who is a stylish beauty with long legs.
Fans look forward to seeing which show will win in the timeslot.
