Kamen Rider Actor Toshinobu Matsuo Arrested in Harajuku

Toshinobu Matsuo (松尾敏伸), who portrayed Kabuki/Kamen Rider Kabuki in Kamen Rider Hibiki and Yoshimasa Morishita/Armadillo Orphnoch in Kamen Rider 555, was arrested on May 9, 2018 by the Harajuku Police Station. He was arrested on suspicion of violating the Stimulants Control Law in or around Tokyo in April to early May of 2018. He denies these charges.

According to the Harajuku station, a police officer met with Matsuo and performed a urine test. The test was positive for drug use.

Around the time of the alleged incident, Matsuo featured a twitter header image of himself with theater director Yukio Ninagawa (蜷川幸雄). Matsuo reported he would be part of a “Oscar Promotion.” After his arrest, Matsuo’s profile was removed from the official event website.

Some Kamen Rider fans were furious at the initial news report. They took their complaints to Twitter. Matsuo was not the star in either of the Kamen Rider shows he appeared in: “He wasn’t in a leading role, so that’s why we call him a Rider actor…”
