Ishinomaki Mangattan Museum Celebrates 3 Million Visitors

Ishinomaki Mangattan Museum, commonly known as the Ishinomori Manga Museum, is devoted to commemorating the work of Shotaro Ishinomori. The museum celebrated five years since its reopening on November 17, 2017. Five years have passed since the devastating  2011 Touhoku earthquake and tsunami.

On December 2, 2017, the number of visitors reached 3 million. A small family made up the celebratory number. The family said their favorite show was Kamen Rider Drive and this was their first visit in two years.

The museum first opened in July 2001. Approximately 200,000 people visit each year. The first 1 million visitor milestone was reached in June 2005 and 2 million in November 2010.

A ceremony to celebrate the milestone was held. The family was awarded local products. The event will continue to be celebrated at the museum until December 10. Manga artist Masato Hayase’s work are on display, with various postcards and goods on sale.
