Local Hero Hakodate Rider Returns for Hokkaido Shinkansen Anniversary

In Japan, many regions have their own local hero. They can be found performing at local stores or promoting events within the area.

Hakodate Rider is the local hero of Hakodate, one of the main cities in Hokkaido, Japan. He has gained popularity among Hakodate citizens because of his clothing that is similar to Kamen Rider. He reappeared during an event on March 26, 2017 to celebrate the anniversary of the Hokkaido Shinkansen opening. He has not appeared since the last event one year ago.

The successor of Hakodate Rider “No. 2” appeared on the anniversary of the Hokkaido Shinkansen opening. As soon as he arrived in front of JR Hakodate Station, excited children asked Hakodate Rider to “Take a picture with me”. Children and young people surrounded the area.

No. 2 said, “I got excited about becoming a hero to be admired. I want to make Hakodate more exciting.”
